In this important show taped at COP-22 in Morocco, we start our series on GeoEngineering. There is a lot public and political resistance to discussions of geoengineering. Environmentalists are especially prone to this bias, which does not serve our best interests. We are already ‘committed’ to breaking through the supposed 2oC ‘guard rail’ originally proposed in the climate negotiations. We face a daunting task of putting an immense amount of toothpaste back into the tube, so to speak. At a minimum, we need to enable a discussion of geoengineering, in order to determine safety, unintended consequences, governance issues, etc. BEFORE these technologies are needed, perhaps urgently needed.
