Why Do Planes Leave White Trails in the Sky?
Have you ever looked up and wondered why airplanes leave long white streaks across the sky? These are called contrails—short for condensation trails. They form when hot jet exhaust, full of water vapor, mixes with the freezing air at high altitudes. The vapor instantly turns into tiny ice crystals, creating those bright white lines you see. Think of it like when you breathe on a cold morning and see your breath—but on a massive scale, at 35,000 feet. Sometimes they disappear quickly, other times they last for hours, depending on humidity. And no, they’re not harmful ‘chemtrails’—just pure physics at work!
