This debate took place on 23/06/2025 as a response to 160k signatures signing a petition form on the UK gov website.
It is hard to see how the governments views on this are not going to slide in the same direction as their emissions reduction commitments. However, as counter intuitive as it might seem, a broader discussion (absent hyperbole on all sides) on solar geoengineering that informed by those investigating it, answering questions from those opposing, may represent our best chance in the near-future, of scraping through with adaption.
There certainly needs to be much more analysis and getting into the detail of risk to risk that a broader audience can engage with. If we cannot articulate these issues, we end up with well meaning but actually meaningless statements from MPs.
