Geoengineering: Our Last Defense Against Climate Change

A Harvard research team is trying to better understand the potential effects of solar geoengineering to save the planet from global warming. Solar geoengineering, also known as solar radiation management, is a proposed last-ditch effort to mitigate the effects of climate change.

It refers to the idea of increasing the reflectivity of the upper atmosphere, so Earth could send a small amount of sunlight back into space. If put into practice on a global scale, millions of tons of reflective particles would be released into the stratosphere to reduce temperatures worldwide.

Today, there are many unknown factors about solar geoengineering, but the goal of these researchers is to improve our understanding of the potential risks.
